Teaching Youth Futures Literacy Skills

In a world of rapid change and uncertainty, equipping our young people with the tools to navigate the unknown is crucial. Enter Futures Literacy Labs: a transformative approach aimed at preparing young minds for the complexity of tomorrow while addressing the concerning global youth disillusionment, recently reported by UNESCO as the 8th biggest global risk.

Adapted from UNESCO’s Futures Literacy Labs model, these sessions integrate mindfulness, embodied practices and strengths-based approaches to support personal development in a community setting. By learning to scan their environment, identify existing ideologies and expectations, youth are better prepared to question, re-imagine and co-design the ways our society functions.

Series of sessions will take place at sites within Berlin’s network of Outreach youth centers. Beyond theoretical discussions, attendees experience practical hands-on exercises designed to provoke imagination through innovative thinking. Collaboration, creativity and perspective taking are some of the skills we develop together.

Beyond these sessions, attendees become part of a dynamic community, fostering connections and collaborations that can extend beyond the constructs of the Labs. These networks serve as incubators for ongoing discussions, community building, idea-sharing and collective problem solving.

The impact of Futures Literacy Labs extends beyond Berlin’s city limits. This project hopes to ignite a global movement where empowered youth equipped with futures literacy and emotional intelligence become catalysts for change in their communities. The intention of these Futures Literacy Labs seeks to build capacity to meet the current moment with resilience, hope and strategic foresight.

This campaign isn’t just another workshop series. It’s a Call To Action - a call to empower the next generation to better understand the role of the future in what they see and do.
